Three Golden Retriever Rescue organizations in the tri-state area teamed up over the last few months in a sleepless effort to rescue 18 Golden Retrievers from the streets of Istanbul. They followed the lead of Adopt-A-Golden out of Atlanta who originally started rescuing Golden's from Turkey when they saw the conditions these dogs were in. You can read more about this story by clicking on this article. Below are some of the pictures I got of these newest Turkey Rescue Dogs arriving at JFK International Airport on September 11, 2015. They were transported from the plane to a cargo hold area where they were allowed out of their crates for about an hour to relieve themselves and get some much needed love and attention after being in crates for the 10+ hour journey they endured to get here. After about an hour of a lot of happy tears and tail wags they were loaded back into their crates for an hours long drive to where they were going to spend their first night in the United States. This effort has cost the three rescues involved a mountain of cash over the last few months and costs continue to mount.
Rescue
Goldstock 2015
From the Goldstock website; For those of you who have never attended, Goldstock is a celebration of our dogs and of rescue. The event was started in 1998 as a get together for members of the Golden@Hobbes e-mail list, and in support of Golden Retriever Rescue. Approximately 65 people and their goldens attended and a few thousand dollars was raised to help rescue. From that beginning, the event has grown to include over 30 rescue groups selling wonderful merchandise; more than 300 people from all over the US, as well as Canada and the UK; and well over 400 very happy dogs. In the 17 years of Goldstock, several hundred thousand dollars has been raised for rescue. You can learn more about Goldstock on their site wwww.goldstockcamp.com and maybe I'll see you there in 2016.
Sunday Afternoon at Goldstock Camp
This past Sunday a film crew started filming for a documentary about the history of Goldstock and the impact it has had on dog rescues over the past 15+ years.
It was an extremely rare chance for me to sneak Trinity and Brady into camp before we attend Goldstock Camp this upcoming Labor Day weekend. Having the beach all to ourselves for an entire afternoon is not something that happens to often at Goldstock. And the best part is that Tori, one of Trinity and Brady's friend from camp was also there getting filmed for the documentary.
If you love dogs and you love taking pictures of them even more than this is the event for you. It's four days of pure relaxation with a community that is open and welcome to all who love dogs as much as they do. The best part is all money raised over the weekend goes to benefit Rescues all over the country.
There was a really great article about it in the Huffington Post last year that featured some of my photos from camp if you'd like to read up more about this great event. And you can check out even more pictures by flipping through my archives of previous years events.
